Players can now finally play Workshop maps in CS2 thanks to Valve introducing this feature in an update on 2 November. You can follow the steps below to get started:
- Launch CS2.
- Go to the Play menu and click on the Workshop Maps tab.
- Click on Visit Workshop in the bottom left part of the screen. This should take you to Steam’s Workshop page for CS2.
- Search for your favorite custom map using the search bar.
- Click on the green Subscribe button in the Workshop map’s menu to begin downloading it on Steam.
- Once downloaded, return to CS2 and navigate to the Workshop Maps tab.
- Select the map that you want to play and click on Go.
- Select the game mode as Custom (or whatever suits your needs) if prompted to do so and then click on Go again.
Congratulations! You should now be able to hop into your favorite custom maps in CS2! In fact, you should be expecting even more fun maps soon as Valve has announced that community map creators can now begin uploading their creations to the Steam Workshop.
This update has been welcomed by the entire CS community, who had taken note of the omission of Workshop maps at the time of CS2’s release. After all, a substantial portion of the community prefers the more laid-back and competition-free experience that custom maps and game modes have to offer.
Furthermore, this update has been a pleasant surprise, arriving much sooner than players had anticipated. Many expected the transition of community maps to the new Source 2 engine to be a much more time-consuming process, prompting many to resort to using third-party apps to gain access to CS:GO’s Workshop maps.
The swiftness of this beloved feature’s return to CS2 has also kindled the optimism of players who eagerly await the return of other absent features, including game modes such as Arms Race, Danger Zone, and Demolition.
Final Thoughts
The initial absence of Workshop maps from CS2 sent a dreadful wave of apprehension through players, who feared a permanent removal of this feature from the game. Nonetheless, the devs at Valve heard all the pleas and reintroduced this feature sooner than anticipated. With that said, which workshop maps are you looking forward to playing?
