After the concept of Battle Royales took the gaming community by storm in 2017, Valve finally embraced the genre by introducing its own BR mode, called Danger Zone, in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. This new mode quickly garnered its own fanbase and has led players to wonder if CS2 will be featuring this game mode. Let’s look at what we know so far!
Does CS2 Have a Battle Royale Mode Like Danger Zone?
As of now, CS2 doesn’t feature Danger Zone or any other Battle Royale mode. The CS community has also yet to receive any official confirmation from Valve explaining the decision to not include the game mode in the launch.
Introduced in late 2018, Danger Zone quickly became a fan-favorite mode since players had long yearned for a game mode that allowed them to kick back and enjoy the game while still preserving competitiveness.
Nevertheless, Valve’s silence on Danger Zone’s absence has left many players uneasy, not to mention the circulating rumors suggesting its permanent removal. Instead of fretting over these speculations, let’s put on our detective hats and see for ourselves whether there’s any truth to them.
Will Danger Zone Be Permanently Removed From CS2?
While we can’t say for certain whether Danger Zone will be removed or not, evidence does point towards its eventual return. Data miner Gabe Follower has claimed to have found references to several new features in CS2’s code, which include a bear trap, a flammable grenade, and a weapon labeled “Pipe”. Now there’s only one game mode where it makes sense to have such weapons, and it’s Danger Zone.
Another reason why it doesn’t make sense for Valve to remove the game mode is the presence of a DZ file in the game. According to CS2 YouTuber Tripp, there is a Bump Mine file present in the game. Bump Mines are equipment exclusive to DZ that produce a very strong force that players can leverage to leap across the map or use to push nearby enemies away.
Apart from all this, the most simple explanation for DZ’s exclusion is that the game mode isn’t yet optimized for the new Source 2 engine yet. In fact, Valve is still dishing out frequent updates to address the numerous bugs that keep popping up in CS2. Therefore, it is highly likely that the devs just need more time to make it more stable and, perhaps, introduce some reworks.
Should Danger Zone Be Reworked For CS2?
As beloved and fun as it was, Danger Zone was not without its share of issues, and fans are eagerly anticipating the release of CS2 with hopes of seeing some of these issues addressed.
The first and foremost issue being the vulnerability of the game mode to smurfs and cheaters. People who just used to play CS:GO for the Battle Royale often found themselves pitted against seasoned players who don’t really hesitate to one-tap you the moment you spawn. The lack of any minimum requirement for hours played also invited a lot of cheaters and trolls.
Additionally, it would also be sweet if maps like Jungle and Frostbite could get reinstated in the map pool. These maps added much-needed richness to the Battle Royale experience and should definitely be fitted into CS2’s Danger Zone mode.
Conclusion
While CS2 might not currently boost a Battle Royale mode, the leaks provide us good reasons to believe that it will soon. The introduction of Danger Zone brought a lot of BR fans to CS:GO, and it is unlikely Valve will not want them to transition to CS2 as well. Do you think we’ll see DZ return in CS2 soon?
