Tekken 8 has rekindled the age-old turmoil within the Mishima family, and we’re totally here for it! Now, if you’ve completed the “The Dark Awakens” story mode and noticed a few missing entries in your Gallery for the final chapter, you’d be delighted to hear that they are actually reserved for the multiple ending cutscenes! So, without further ado, let’s find out how to unlock all the endings in Tekken 8!
How To Get All Endings In Tekken 8 Story Mode?
Tekken 8 has two alternate ending cutscenes waiting for you at the end of Chapter 15. If you walk out victorious from the final battle, you’ll unlock the “good” ending. But if you’re feeling a bit dystopic and want to see the “bad” ending, you’ll basically need to become a punching bag and lose the battle.
The good ending – titled “Hope” – is the default and canon ending that’s played after you clear the final battle. However, do take note that if you lose the battle, there’ll be no option to retry as you’ll automatically trigger the bad “Despair” ending on losing.
Talking of which, the easiest way to get this alternate ending is to simply go get some snacks while your opponent drains your health bar. To expedite the process, however, we suggest either ducking or walking forward to prevent your character from auto-parrying the attacks.
Tekken 8 presents one of the most compelling storylines in the franchise, and with so much happening, it leaves ample space for interpretation and speculation about the true meaning of these endings, especially the post-credits scene. So, let’s have a look at what both of these endings signify.
Please note that there are heavy spoilers for Tekken 8 in the stuff below.
Tekken 8 Good Ending (Hope) Explained
In this ending, Jin Kazama overcomes the power of his devil gene, guided by a vision from his mother, Jun. This vision allows him to morph into Angel Jin, the polar opposite of his former Devil Jin form. After a fierce battle with his father, Kazuya Mishima, first in his devil form and then his human form, Jin finally subdues him, seemingly ending the evil of the Mishima bloodline.
The “Hope” ending cutscene starts with Jin gazing at the ocean while standing on a cliff on Yakushima. A white bird glides by him, drawing his attention to a solitary white flower on the ground. He plucks this flower, which is a symbol of his mother’s presence, and thanks her for all the help she provided in his journey.
We then see Jin riding his motorcycle on Route 331 in the USA, where he stops to meet Xiaoyu. The interaction between Jin and Xiaoyu in Tekken 8 is quite significant, and this scene might indicate that Jin is finally beginning to reciprocate Xiaoyu’s feelings towards him.
Throughout the series, Jin has been portrayed as a lone wolf, often pushing others away due to his internal battles. However, this scene is a pretty good indication that Jin is finally opening up to Xiaoyu and possibly deepening their potential romantic relationship.
In the final moments of the cutscene, we witness Kazuya’s body, motionless and lying face down. He’s approached by a female character whose identity is not revealed in the game. However, we do get to see her shoes, which bear a striking resemblance to those worn by none other than Jun Kazama, Jin’s mother.
What exactly this interaction means remains a mystery for now. However, it lays the groundwork for an equally compelling narrative in future Tekken installments. For now, we can only speculate on whether Kazuya is alive or not.
Tekken 8 Bad Ending (Despair) Explained
In the ending aptly titled “Despair”, Kazuya Mishima, finally puts an end to his son’s quest to end the evils of his bloodline. And as expected, he follows the Mishima family tradition and hurls Jin off a cliff.
Kazuya is then shown making a vow to continue his fight even after losing his devil form permanently. And we all know that he’s talking about fighting for far more than his sneaker collection.
In fact, we actually get to see the aftermath of Kazuya’s victory. The end-credits show a montage of G Corp members, including Bryan, Feng, and a bunch of Jacks causing chaos all across the world.
