Players have been yearning for a new CS operation pass for quite a while now, with the last operation, Operation Riptide, ending all the way back in February 2022. The release of CS2, however, has reignited hopes for getting a new operation soon, leaving players wondering if Valve has made any announcements regarding the next operation. So, without further ado, let’s find out what we know so far about the next CS2 operation pass.
When Is The New CS2 Operation Pass Set To Release?
As of now, Valve has not yet disclosed a specific release date for the next operation pass to the CS2 community. Nonetheless, we might not completely be in the dark regarding its release as the CS community’s diligent data miners and leakers have been hard at work to uncover any useful information, and their efforts haven’t been in vain.
One of the first discoveries was made by renowned CS data miner Gabe Follower, according to whom the devs might already be working on the next operation pass, which will feature new pins, cosmetic items and weapon collections.
Despite the caveat that this discovered content might not make it to a release in the future, their presence provides strong evidence that an operation pass is actively under development at present.
Moreover, on 1 September, Gabe Follower once again took to X/Twitter with intriguing news about the upcoming CS2 operation. This time, he hinted at the possibility that the CS2 devs might be considering the introduction of support for new comics as part of the upcoming CS2 operation.
In another tweet, he shared that he’s discovered references to co-op missions, hinting at the potential introduction of new collaborative gameplay mechanics in CS2. Additionally, the post also mentions “session coins”, which could be a new reward for players who successfully complete each operation season. Finally, we also get to know about a mysterious “VIP game mode”, whose specifics remain subject to speculation within the CS2 community.
While it’s wise to take all of this evidence with a grain of salt, all the collected information has led the CS2 community to adopt an optimistic outlook regarding a potential new operation pass. Speculation even points towards a potential release around the end of 2023, aligning with the Christmas holiday season. After all, Valve has been dishing out new updates at a swift pace, including the much-anticipated integration of Workshop maps in CS2, an update that was expected to come out as late as mid-2024.
Others, however, keep a more realistic stance and anticipate a potentially longer wait until as late as April 2024 to get the new operation.
Final Thoughts
Our minds are saying it’s a next-year thing, but our hearts place their bets on a Christmas surprise. The lack of any official statement from Valve and the presence of an ample amount of leaked information has made this topic a bit of a toss-up, and you can’t fault either side. Do you think Valve is readying a surprise update containing the new operation pass, or will they prioritize other features first? Let us know your thoughts and insights in the comments below.
